DH News for the week of 4/28/2025
Before I go down the tariff rabbit hole, I wanted to remind everyone that this Saturday is FREE COMIC BOOK DAY! It's a great opportunity to discover something new and maybe snag a bargain!
Now, have you been wondering how tariffs will affect Digital Heroes? This week, let's break it down. Essentially, these tariffs act as a tax that we, as the importer, pay directly to the US government on goods brought into the USA from countries targeted by those tariffs. For example, if there were a tariff on action figures from China, say hypothetically at 100%, then on an action figure we purchase for $5, we would pay an additional $5 in tax to the US government upon delivery, bringing our cost to $10. Suddenly, our $9.95 selling price doesn't cover our expenses, and we'd likely need to consider a significantly higher price to maintain our margin. This raises a critical question: do we continue with these items, or do we need to explore new options?
It's easy to think that if we only sell items made in the USA, like trading cards, we're safe. Unfortunately, the interconnectedness of global supply chains means even domestic production is often impacted. The paper, ink, and wrappers for those cards are frequently imported, driving up costs for the manufacturers, who will likely pass those costs on to us. A significant number of comics are also printed in Canada, which means they could also be subject to import costs that we would ultimately bear.Rest assured, we are closely monitoring the prices we pay for all of our inventory. As these tariff-related costs evolve, we will be making necessary adjustments to our pricing and product offerings to ensure the continued operation of Digital Heroes, allowing us to meet our financial obligations, including paying our bills and supporting our employees.
