The issue was written by John Byrne and drawn by Bart Sears. It introduces the character of Mattie Franklin as the fourth Spider-Woman. The story begins with Madame Web recruiting Mattie, Julia Carpenter, and Jessica Drew to take down Charlotte Witter, the fourth Spider-Woman. Witter has stolen the powers of the other Spider-Women and is using them for her own evil purposes. Mattie, Julia, and Jessica must team up to stop Witter and save the day. The issue also includes a back story for Mattie Franklin, explaining how she came to be the fourth Spider-Woman. Spider-Woman #1 was a critical and commercial success, and it helped to launch Mattie Franklin as a popular character. The issue is considered to be one of the best Spider-Woman stories ever published.

This book is signed by cover artist Bart Sears and has been professionally graded and certified by CGC.
